STORY:
In Nov, 2008 at
my first M&G in Vancouver, I gave Jon a shirt as a birthday present.
I was so nervous I am not sure I even made eye contact with him, I can’t
remember what I said, I may have just thrust it in his hand. I DO remember
that he could tell I was freaking out and was rubbing my back.
I made a total fool of myself and left with only the comfort that I
am sure he would never remember me.
In April, during spring tour,
we were getting ready for another road trip to Canada for 2 more shows.
It was about 2 weeks before our show and I noticed in the Illinois M&G
pictures Jon was wearing the shirt I gave him! I about died.
In Victoria I was determined
to see and actually talk to Jon this time. I was even planning on making
eye contact. We walked into the M&G and Jon was first. So I hugged
him, stood next to him and planted my feet. I wasn’t moving. I didn’t
care about the other guys this time. Joe happened to be standing on
the other side of me so I hugged him and thanked him for coming out
to take pics at the hotel, but the entire time I kept 1 eye on Jon.
He wasn’t going to run away from me this time. (Twice before I missed
him because he was hosing himself off with purell.)
He was done hugging everyone
as they came in and I turned to him and got verbal diarrhea. I said
“I’m sure you don’t remember this but- I gave you a shirt in November
and you wore it in Champaign not too long ago. I know you aren’t supposed
to do this, but I have a picture of you in the shirt and I was wondering
if you would sign it?” without taking a breath.
He looked at me a said “yeah-
of course, do you have the picture on you?” I pulled it out of my
pocket. When he saw the picture he told me he had read my post on nkotbfans.com
and even knew the t-shirt company screwed up and sent me long sleeve
the first time and my friend has it now (what up Shana!). I may have
said something like “You saw that? SHUT UP!” And I may or may not
have poked him in the side. It’s all hearsay since I can’t remember
it. He also mentioned that he had just washed it the day before.
He asked if I had a sharpie.
I started to give it to him and they called for picture time. So we
squeezed together. The sharpie wasn’t even out of my pocket and Armando
pounced. Demanding I hand it over “right now”. I must have looked
at Jon like I had been punched in the stomach because he looked at me,
looked at Armando, put his arm around me and said “It’s cool. That’s
my mahkah” SWOON! My knight in shining armor. When I left the M&G
I couldn’t stop smiling. He signed my picture and when we were on
our way out Armando made me give him my sharpie. By that time, I didn’t
care and tossed it to him with a big grin.
Flash to September 1st
of this year. Jon DM’d me on twitter and told me he wore my shirt
to work that day. And that he wears it all the time and he will keep
it for years and years.
Did I mention that in order
to sneak it into the M&G I had to hide it in my pants?
Yes, Yes
I did.
